Edna Lee Slinkard

Lee Slinkard, 80, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sat. May 20, 2017 at the Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by her family.

She was born Oct. 17, 1936 in Blomeyer, MO, daughter of Ebert E. and Claris E. Tipton Schneider Sr. She and John David Slinkard were married Nov. 20, 1955 at Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville, MO. He passed away in Feb. of 2000.

Lee grew up on a farm and was active in 4-H Club. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1954 where she met her husband, John. She received her LPN nursing license from St. Francis Hospital School of Practical Nursing in 1956. She was a dedicated nurse all her life and worked at the old St. Francis Hospital, Perry County Memorial Hospital and was a school nurse at Oak Ridge School District. "General Lee" finished her career at Southeast Missouri Hospital where she retired in October 2003. She was a member of the Lutheran faith and enjoyed gardening and refinishing furniture. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

Loving survivors include a son John David and Tammy Slinkard of Holland, MI, three daughters Robin and Drew White of Cape, Christy Montgomery of St. Charles and Kelly Slinkard of Cape. Two brothers E. E. "Butch" Schneider Jr. of Jackson, Jack and Carolyn Schneider of Fort Worth, TX, two sisters June Borgfield of Jackson and Rose and Howie Meadows of Manchester, MO, a brother in law Jim and Barb Slinkard of Cape and four sisters in law, Wanda Lee and Donnie Stone of Daisy, Sharon Schneider of Cape, Ruth Ann Hobeck of Jackson and Mary Lou Hanners of Jackson.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jacob and Chelsea White, Melanie and Erich Montgomery, Trista and Wesley Anderson, Nickolas Slinkard and Daniel Ard. As well as six great-grandchildren Henrik, Marlowe, Harrison,Chael, Sam and Ben.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John of 45 years, her father and mother-in-law Weldon and Amelia Slinkard a sister-in-law Sharon Kay Slinkard and brothers-in-law, Don Borgfield, Gefford Hobeck and Deon Hanners.

Friends may call Sat. June 3 from 9 am till service time at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial service will be Sat. June 3 at 10:00 am at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau with Rev Mark Martin officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may take the form of contributions to Crown Hospice or St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
