Elmer E. Kamp

Elmer E. Kamp, 88, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, where he resided the past six years.

He was born December 11, 1929, in Tilsit, Missouri to Albert Sr. and Nora Bodenstein Kamp. He and Martha Daume were married July 7, 1951, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit, Missouri. They had been married 65 years when Martha passed away October 8, 2016.

Elmer attended grade school in Burfordville, Missouri. He was a 1948 graduate of Jackson High School. He was an Sergeant in the Missouri National Guard, with Company E, 140th Infantry, in Jackson, serving honorably from June 23, 1948 to June 15, 1957.

Elmer enjoyed a lengthy career. He was employed 13 years as superintendent at the former Jackson Hosiery Mill, also Ceramo, and the former Kroger Egg Grading Plant, all in Jackson; Drury Custom Woodworking in Cape Girardeau; Bootheel Area Rapid Transportation, and the former Stogies both in Jackson.

Elmer also owned rental property in Jackson and co-owned and operated two self-service laundry businesses and a self-service car wash in Jackson. He enjoyed learning by tinkering with things and was proficient in doing his own repair work. In his younger years, he was a member of a bowling team in Jackson. Other hobbies were woodworking, fishing, and hunting deer, turkey, and quail.

Elmer was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. He was previously active in the Men's Club and served as an elder, usher, voting member, and on the board of trustees. He was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Carol (Roy) Bollinger Jr. of Jackson and Connie Oliveros of Orlando, Florida; three grandchildren, Landon (Jamie) Bollinger and children Carson and Jaxson of Jackson, Carlos (Brianna) Oliveros and children Carlo, Ava and Sofia of Brookesville, Florida, and Marta (Sergio) Perez and children Olivia, Lucas and August of Tampa, Florida; five sisters-in-law: Jessie (the late Earl) Kamp; Dena (the late Albert “Jr.”) Kamp; Darlene (the late Charles) Kamp; Dorothy (the late Lawrence) Heise and Mary Daume, all of Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Earl Kamp, Albert Kamp, Jr., and Charles Kamp; a sister, Elsie (Ernest) Schafer; a brother-in-law, John J. Daume; and two sisters-in-law, Louise (Lloyd) Schoenebeck and Delores Daume.

Visitation is Thursday, February 8, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m., at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and Friday, February 9, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. to service time, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

The funeral is Friday, February 9, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., at the church, with the Rev. Joshua Schmidt officiating. Burial and military honors will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church or School.
