Esther Edna Roberts, age 97, of Delta, Colorado and formerly of Jackson, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025 Esther spent the first 18 years in Jackson MO and in the small community of Tilsit. This is where she went to church with her parents and siblings, in a horse-drawn buggy. After graduating from high school in 1945, she went to St Louis to receive her nurses training at St Lukes Hospital School of Nursing. She had always thought of nursing, taking care of people and this dream became a reality when she graduated in 1948.
That same year she met her husband, Frank. They were married in 1949, while he was still a United States Air Force Cadet in advanced training at Barksdale AFB LA. In 1951 they were blessed with a son, Jim, while stationed in Tachyikawa Japan. Judy, their second child, was born in Westover, Massachusetts in 1954. Their daughter Sue was born in Massachusetts in 1955. At the time they were stationed in Falmouth MA on Cape Cod Bay. Frank was transferred to Washington DC for him to attend Foreign Language Institute to learn Spanish. The family found themselves in Madrid Spain in 1956. While in Madrid, they welcomed another son, Charlie. They spent a very happy four years in Madrid. Esther was a true dedicated United States Air Force wife. She assumed duties as a housewife, Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout's mother and when called upon could and would do nursing duties. Esther's husband, Frank, retired from the United States Air Force in 1972 after 24 years at Scott AFB IL. Shortly thereafter they moved to Ogden UT. Esther went back to school, Weber State College, and began a 2nd career. She returned to Nursing as a Homecare Nurse. She thoroughly enjoyed homecare nursing. She retired from nursing in Dec 1993 prior to their move to Arkansas in 1994. After the passing of her husband, she eventually moved back to the Jackson MO area in 2013. Later, in 2024, Esther moved to Delta CO. Esther's hobbies included traveling, golfing, bowling, sewing, quilting and any outdoor activity. Loving survivors include her children, Jim and wife Jill Roberts of Ogden, Utah; Judy and husband Mike Stansbery of Elizabeth, Colorado; Sue and husband Tom Murphy of Freeport, Florida; and Charlie Roberts of Flippin, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Jaime (Denin) Peterson and Nicholas Roberts; three great grandchildren, Kole, Kamden, and Jyllian Peterson and Tyler and Lauren Roberts; and a sister, Charleen Statler of Glen Carbon, Illinois. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two sisters, Wilma Nations and Norma Sewing. A visitation will be from 10 am - 11 am, Friday, May 16, 2025, at St. James United Church of Christ in Tilsit.
The funeral service will be at 11 am Friday, May 16, 2025 at the church with Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
