Eunice Frieda Jahn nee Haertling, of Jackson, fell asleep in Jesus on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau with her family by her side.
She was born 91 years ago on August 1, 1930, to Walter and Frieda Bodenschatz Haertling at New Wells, Mo. She was baptized August 10, 1930, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church at New Wells, Missouri and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on August 8, 1943.
She and Eldor Oswald Jahn were married March 5, 1950, in Osceola, Arkansas. They were married nearly 55 years when Eldor passed away on February 15, 2005.
To Eunice and Eldor’s union, they were blessed with five children, an infant son, the late Dale Jahn, passed away on January 23, 1954, at the young age of 1 year and five months old, a daughter, Deborah (Dave) Brewer of St. Louis, Missouri, Donna (the late Charles) Hookham, of Tampa, Florida, Cynthia (Denford) Small of Tampa, Florida, and a son, the late Kirk Clayton (Susan) Jahn of Jackson, passed away on March 18, 1999, at the young age of 39 years old, and a brother, Calvin Gene (Velda) Haertling of Perryville.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, Chuck (Cindy) Hookham, Bill (Christine) McCalister, Candace (John) Just, Scott (Laura) Jahn, and Kelly (Daniel) Wendell, eight great grandchildren, Anthony Hookham, Savannah and Samantha McCalister, Andrew Just, Kirk Michael and Kayleigh Jahn, and James and Rita Wendell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, two sons, a brother; Wesley Haertling, two sisters, Bernice Richardson and Alice Carron, a sister-in-law, Velda Hearting, and two brothers-in-law, Oscar Richardson and Norville “Sniff” Carron.
Eunice graduated from Jackson High School in 1948, then attended nursing school at St. Louis City Hospital. In 1955 Eldor and Eunice joined St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. She worked beside her husband and family for many years in their farming and excavating businesses. Eunice loved to dance and garden, but especially loved to give attention to her grand and great grandchildren.
Throughout her life and to her last days Eunice would share that “The crowning jewel in her life was being a forgiven child of God through Jesus and a member of the Church Triumphant.”
Visitation will be Sunday, August 8, 2021, from 3 pm to 6 pm at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and on Monday, August 9, 2021, from 9:30 am until service time at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Funeral service will be Monday, August 9, 2021, at 10:30 am, at the church, with the Rev. Jason Shaw officiating.
Graveside service will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
