Florence Bright

Florence E. Bright, 95, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, where she resided the past six months.

She was born July 12, 1921, in Bloomfield, Missouri, to Lee Roy and Ethel Wright Hyslop. She and Charles W. "Wesley" Bright were married November 7, 1936, in Bloomfield, Missouri. They had been married 65 years when Wesley passed away March 11, 2002.

The Bright's resided several years in Dexter, moving to Cape Girardeau in 1961. Shortly thereafter, Florence established Bright's Beauty Salon, located on North Perry Avenue. She operated the shop until 1978. In 1979, the Bright's moved to Jackson, but only briefly before returning to Cape Girardeau.

Since 1961, Florence was an active member of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. She served as a Sunday school teacher, assisted with the annual sausage supper, and prepared desserts for the Men's Dart Ball Club. She loved to cook and especially enjoyed seeing folks eat a hot, healthy meal.

Loving survivors include a son Donald (Marlene) Bright of Jacksonville, Florida; two granddaughters, Penelope Jayne (Philip) Shields of Leawood, Kansas and Cassandra Janine (Martin) Weiser of Greens Fork, Indiana; three great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a brother, Charles (Evelyn) Hyslop of Birch Tree, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers; and seven sisters.

Visitation is Tuesday, October 4, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral is Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tony Kobak officiating.

Interment will follow in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Hanover Lutheran Church.
