Frances E. Brotherton, 93, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2026, at her home.
She was born January 24, 1932, in Isola, Mississippi, daughter of Rev. James L. and Ollie O. Nicholas McElroy. She and Delmar J. Brotherton were married July 8th, 1994, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Frances was an active member of the Maple Avenue Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau and enjoyed her daily devotional bible study. She worked as a nurse’s assistant at St. Francis Medical Center which allowed her spirit of service to others to shine through. She also volunteered her time to serve others at St. Francis Medical Center with the ladies auxiliary. She loved hummingbirds and helping others.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Sherri (Steve) Pierce of Cape Girardeau; a son, Mark Tranum of St. Louis, Missouri; four granddaughters, Melissa (Josh) Miller, Jennifer, (Jamie) Wills, Alisha Tranum, and Jessica Tranum; four grandsons, Nathan (Chasity) Pierce, Jonathan Pierce, Benjamin Pierce, and Marc (Kim) Tranum; eleven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; a brother, James (Bonnie) McElroy of Yuma, Arizona; and a sister, Ollie Ruth Swanson of Ingram, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lem O. Tranum and Delmar J. Brotherton; a son, David Tranum; parents; two brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 11 am until service time Thursday, January 29, 2026 at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 12 (noon) Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Fred Burgard officiating. Burial will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery at Jackson.
