Gene Mason

Dennis G. "Gene" Mason, Sr., 90, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at the home of his son in Kansas City, Missouri.

He was born August 5, 1927, in Jackson, to Oscar and Carrie Steimel Mason. He and Dorris M. Vogelsang were married July 31, 1948, in Arkansas.

Gene served honorably in the U.S. Army. He worked for the former Missouri Utilities / Ameren U.E. in Cape Girardeau, retiring as a district superintendent in February, 1990.

He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He was an usher and was active in the Men's Club, assisting many years with their foodstand at the Annual SEMO District Fair.

He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local #1 in Cape Girardeau, the American Legion in Cape Girardeau, and a lieutenant in the former auxiliary police in Cape Girardeau. He and Dorris were longtime members of the Alamanders Square Dance Club.

Loving survivors include his wife of 69 years, Dorris Mason of Cape Girardeau; three children, Donna (the late Wayne) Deress of Orland Park, Illinois, Connie (Stan) Mosier of Kansas City, and Dennis G. "Denny" (Denise) Mason, Jr., of Kansas City; five grandchildren, Dawn Holloway, Dana (Roman) Polvinale, John Mosier, Kaci (Tyler) Curtis, Christopher Mason and fiancee Lainie Huffman; and five great-grandsons, Gabe, Dante, Alex, Jacob, and Finn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ruth Fatchett and LaVern Biri.

Visitation is Sunday, October 22, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m., at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, and Monday, October 23, 2017, from 10 a.m. to service time, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral is Monday, October 23, 2017, at 11 a.m., at the church, with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Burial will follow in New Lorimier Cemetery.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
