Rev. Gerald Lynne Turner

Rev. Gerald L. “Jerry” Turner, 91, of Marble Hill, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born January 2, 1933, in Shelby County, Missouri, to Wade G. and Naoma Mae Bruce Turner.  Jerry was a 1950 graduate of Shelbina (Missouri) High School.

Jerry was inducted into the U.S. Army March 24, 1953.  He served 17 months in Korea and was honorably discharged February 11, 1955.  He received the Korean Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal; and one Overseas Bar.

Jerry and Stella Ann Burkhardt were married December 14, 1958, in Clarence, Missouri.   Both Jerry and Stella are ordained Methodist ministers.

Jerry’s ministry career spanned 25 years of service as follows: Lancaster Circuit; Lewistown Parish; Marble Hill, Lutesville; Pike County Larger Parish; Bowling Green First; Barker; Knox County Parish; Bell City, Sadler’s Chapel; Essex and Morehouse, retiring in 1997.  Jerry continued to serve in retirement through prayer and visitation ministry, and offering encouragement.  He also served at Dogwood in 2005.

In retirement, Jerry enjoyed traveling with his wife, working with dirt, gardening, and mowing his lawn.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of nearly 66 years; a son, Steven (Gwen) Turner of Caledonia, Missouri, two grandsons, Christopher Turner and wife Becca Hanauer of Columbia, Maryland and Matthew (Christen) Turner of Gaithersburg, Maryland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Lavenia (Clarence) Rhoades, and William Bruce Turner.

A memorial visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday, July 26, 2024, at Creekside Faith Fellowship Church, 300 Missouri 34, Marble Hill, Missouri. The Rev. Jerry Willer will conduct a memorial service at 12 p.m., assisted by the Rev. Tim Zych. Military Honors will follow. If considering a memorial contribution, the family suggests Creekside Faith Fellowship (address in previous paragraph).
