Glenn Lohmann

Glenn E. Lohmann, age 92, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Jackson.

He was born November 23, 1924 in Cape Girardeau, son of Alvin J. and Beulah M. Tuschhoff Lohmann. He and Mildred E. Maevers were married July 23, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. She passed away October 10, 2002.

Glenn attended Perryville High School until he was inducted into the U.S. Army November 9, 1943 and was honorably discharged November 15, 1945. He served in in Africa, Austria, Italy and France in the 349th regiment in the 88th infantry division, which in WWII was known as the “Fighting Blue Devils.” He, along with his division, was awarded the “Croix De Guerre” a French Military medal issued for extraordinary feats of bravery and service to the French people. He also was awarded a Bronze star.

Glenn worked at Lichtenegger's Grocery Store in Jackson, Anderson-Clark in Cape Girardeau and Cape County Road District, retiring after 18 years as custodian from Jackson R-II School District in 1988. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was a former money counter, service trustee and charter member of the Men's Club. Glenn was a member of the American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, and he volunteered at Southeast Hospital for eight years.

Loving survivors include four siblings, Shirley M. Lohmann of Jackson, Willard A. Lohmann of Lake Forest, California, Anna Dean Statler of Jackson and Ruth A. (Lindell) Dunivan of Ironton, Missouri; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws, Marvin (Gladys) Aufdenberg, Lester (Ruth) Maevers and Jerlene Hutteger, all of Jackson; 20 nieces and nephews and his special canine companion, Lucky.

In addition to his wife, Mildred, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Aufdenberg and a brother-in-law, Gene R. Statler.

The visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2017 at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson with an American Legion Service to be held at 6 p.m. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jason Shaw officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with military honors.

The family suggests that contributions be made to St. Paul Lutheran Radio Broadcast or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
