Gordon Schafer

Gordon J. Schafer, 28, of Cape Girardeau, unexpectedly passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 19, 1989, in Cape Girardeau, to Robert "Bob" and Shirlene Barks Schafer.

He attended Mineral Area College and earned an Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Technology. The past five years he worked fulltime for Drury Petroleum and Drury Land Development, both in Cape Girardeau.

He previously attended Cape Bible Chapel in Cape Girardeau and was active in their basketball league. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and buying, refurbishing, and reselling old cars and boats.

Loving survivors include his parents, Bob and Shirlene Schafer of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Bradley (Amanda) Schafer and their sons Ethan and Wyatt of Millersville.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jason Schafer on September 20, 2004; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Visitation is Wednesday, September 27, 2017, from 4 to 8 pm., at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral is Thursday, September 28, 2017, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Revs. Jim Matthews and Mike Parry officiating.

Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Cape County Cowboy Church, Fruitland Community Church, or the donor's choice of church or charity.
