Harlan W. Tuschhoff, 89, of Sedgewickville, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born December 1, 1933, near Friedheim, Missouri, to Oscar and Mary Kester Tuschhoff. Harlan attended grade school in Arnsberg and Trinity Lutheran School in Friedheim and was a 1951 graduate of Perryville High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War, from May 4, 1954, to May 3, 1956, and later earned a master's degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University. Harlan taught school several years at Notre Dame in St. Louis and Notre Dame in Cape Girardeau. He later changed his career path and began farming fulltime in the Friedheim and Sedgewickville areas. Harlan and Marie Bangert were married June 16, 1985, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim, also the church of Harlan's baptism and confirmation. Harlan and Marie had been married 30 years when Marie passed away February 11, 2016. Harlan was a member of the American Legion in Perryville and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim. Loving survivors include his twin brother, Harold (the late Kay) Tuschhoff of Jackson; nieces and nephews, Cheryl (Mark) Renne of Foristell, Missouri, Donna Tuschhoff of Eureka, Missouri, Dan (Kathy) Tuschhoff of Cape Girardeau, Bev Tuschhoff (wife of the late Tim Tuschhoff) of Jackson; several great-nieces, great-nephews, five great-great-nieces; and dear friends, Lyza and Joel Koesterer of Cape Girardeau. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two siblings, Hilbert (Aileen) Tuschhoff and Helenmarie (Elmer) Koenig; a sister-in-law, Kay Tuschhoff; and a nephew, Timothy Tuschhoff. Visitation is from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 23, 2023, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 10 a.m. to service time, Friday, March 24, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim. The Rev. Paul Hoemann will conduct the funeral service at 11 a.m., Friday, March 24, 2023, at the church. Interment and military rites will follow at the church cemetery. Memorials may take the form of contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim or the donor's choice of church or charity.
