Harold "Skeeter" Schweer, 81, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016 at his home.
"Skeeter", as he was known to most all who knew him, was born January 26, 1935, in Jackson, son of Ben B. and Frieda J. Soehlig Schweer. He and Kathy Windeknecht Cora were married October 5, 2001 in Branson, Missouri.
He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson, an active member of the Men's Fellowship and had served on the church council. Skeeter worked as a meat cutter for 56 years at Schnucks and Save-A-Lot, a job he truly enjoyed. He also traveled several years for Reelfoot Meats out of Union City, TN. Skeeter had a passion for slow pitch softball: coaching and sponsoring many teams for over 30 years, whether it be for league play or traveling teams participating in tournaments. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. Skeeter also was a former Cub Scout leader and was a member of the Jaycees where he served as a former President. He leaves behind his family and many beloved friends who shared deeply in his life.
In addition to Kathy, his loving wife of 14 years, survivors include a son, Jim (Gina) Schweer of St. Louis; one daughter, Teresa (Dave) Koch of Jackson; a step daughter, Renee (Dean) Wampler of Farmington, Mo; a sister and brother-in-law, Earline (Norman) Cadwell of Florissant, Missouri; seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Kim Schweer, and a sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Don Bock.
A memorial visitation will be Friday, June 17, 2016, from 9 a.m. to service time at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The service will be at 11 AM on Friday, June 17, 2016 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe Rowley officiating.
Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
The family suggests that contributions be made to Emanuel United Church of Christ or to Crown Hospice.
