Helen Marie Scholz

Helen Marie Scholz, age 85, passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Hubble Creek Skilled Nursing Center, formerly the Monticello House, in Jackson, Missouri.

Helen was born September 25, 1939, in Cape Girardeau County, to Herbert and Mae Lucille (Bush) Haehnlein. She was united in marriage to John Scholz on July 1, 1978. He preceded her in death on August 4, 2014.

Helen was known as one of the kindest and most loving souls anyone could ever meet. She had a heart that embraced all—her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren, with a special bond to her beloved boy, Christopher. Her love extended beyond people to the many animals she cared for, from farm animals to beloved pets, and even exotic creatures, especially her cherished squirrels.

A woman of immense strength and unwavering work ethic, Helen dedicated several years at Lee Rowan Company in Jackson before transitioning to a deeply meaningful career working with individuals with disabilities. Outside of her professional life, she ran a farm, cared for her animals, and never slowed down.

Helen leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. She is survived by four children: Ramona (Ray) Matthews of Fredericktown, Missouri, Rhonda Blumenberg of Union, Missouri, Rebecca Houston of Farmington, Missouri, Kim (Darrell) Barks of Silva, Missouri.

She is also lovingly remembered by 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, along with many others who considered her a mother or grandmother in their hearts.

In addition to her husband John, she was preceded in death by two children, Karen and Robert Leadbetter, and a brother, Larry T. Haehnlein.

If she could leave one final message, it would be: "Kids, I love you."

A memorial visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to service time, Saturday, October 4, 2025, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. The Rev. Joe Allen will conduct a life celebration service at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 4, at the funeral home.

Helen’s love, strength, and generosity will be missed by all who knew her.
