Herman Joseph Wiedefeld

October 30, 1944 — June 1, 2018

Cape Girardeau

Herman Joseph Wiedefeld, 73 of Jackson, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018 surrounded by his family who he adored.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2018, at McComb’s Funeral Home, 640 West Independence Street, Jackson, Missouri.   Father John Harth will lead Parish Prayers at 7pm.

Father John Harth will celebrate Mass at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Church, 208 South Hope Street, Jackson, Missouri.   Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.    Pallbearers will be Kyle Bahner, Brett and Brock Ruch, Jared Brown, Bryan Sander and Matt Hileman.

Herman was born on October 30, 1944 in Cape Girardeau, to John and Anna Marie Landewee Wiedefeld, who preceeded him in death.  Herman graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1963, and in 1964 married Virginia Glastetter of the home, who survives.

Herman loved his first job at the former Blue Hole BBQ joint in Cape Girardeau, and often spoke of the great times he had there while making lifelong friends.  He spent many years in the grocery business, co-owning a store in Dexter, Missouri, with his late brother Raymond Wiedefeld.  Later, Herman, Virginia, and Gary Helwege operated a family business called Kids’ World in the Cape Town Plaza, where he taught many teenage employees how to mop floors, make pizza, serve ice cream, and host birthday parties.   His work ethic and kind heart were seen daily as he successfully managed this fun hang out place, influencing many along the way, including his adopted daughter, Kim Hogan.  Herman finished his work career as a foreman with the Cape County Parks Department.  Once again, his strong work ethic and kindness were evident and felt by those who worked with him including his “Little Buddy” Bryan Sander, who even though much younger than Herman, quickly became one of his best friends in life.

Herman enjoyed raising martens and pigeons with his Uncle Frank, and was a true St. Louis Cardinal Fan.  His greatest joy was his family.  His proudest accomplishments were his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He loved seeing them, hearing stories about them, and checking Facebook for pictures and updates of them.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in law, Angie and Mike Seabaugh of Jackson and Lea Anne and Eric Rogers of Bloomfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Kyle and Hali Bahner, Kory and Jared Brown, Chelsea Dye, Brett and Jessi Ruch, Taylor and Paige Seabaugh, Brock Ruch, and Alyssa Rogers; great-grandchildren, Elaina Bahner, Emmett and Evelyn Corbin, Jaylee, Jaxon, and Jules Brown, and Grey Ruch; siblings, Wayne Wiedefeld and Mary Underwood; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Raymond Wiedefeld.
