Homer Greening

Homer Greening, 86, of Jackson, passed away Monday, March 30, 2020, at Southeast Hopsital in Cape Girardeau.

One of three children, Homer was born December 17, 1933, in Monroe County, Missouri, to Frederick and Nadine Dooley Greening.

He was a graduate of Hannibal High School in Hannibal, Missouri.  He was a corporal in the U.S. Army, serving honorably from June 18, 1953 to May 5, 1955.  He then earned a pharmacology degree from the University of Iowa.  While attending college, he and Jane Cosgrave were married June 8, 1957, in East Moline, Illinois.

After graduating from college and actively working as a pharmacist, the Greenings resided in the communities of Hannibal, Troy, and Pittsfield, Missouri, before making a longterm home in Kahoka, Missouri.  It was there that Homer established Greening Pharmacy.  In 1987, when he sold the business, he and Jane retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas where Homer became a fulltime golfer.  In 1994, Homer continued his love for golf, when they moved to Jackson to be a little closer to the grandchildren.  He and Jane became members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and often went to the Senior Center, both in Jackson.

Loving survivors include his wife of nearly 63 years, Jane Greening of Jackson; four children, Michael Greening of New York, Mark (Jolee) Greening of Siginaw, Texas, Mitch (Carol) Greening and sons Zachary and James of Sarasota, Florida, Mary (Fred) Glass and children Jessica, Kylie, and Freddie of St. Louis, Missouri; and a sister, Connie Lierman of Maryland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Nadine Dooley; and a sister, Jane Peterhoff.

Military honors will be accorded at a later date at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.
