He was born August 30, 1931, in Fornfelt, Missouri, to George W. and Minnie Spencer Hamilton.  He and Mona Ross were married September 24, 1954, in Cape Girardeau.  Their union was blessed with two children, Steven and Janet.

He was a graduate of Illmo Fornfelt High School and Indiana University.

Homer was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, and the recipient of a Bronze Star Medal.  His Air Force career spanned 20 years beginning in 1951 and included overseas assignments in Labrador Canada, Incirlik Turkey and South Vietnam.  One of his early assignments was to the administration of the ROTC Program at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where he also completed his bachelor’s degree in education.  In total he moved his family 14 times, settling in Jackson after retirement in 1971.  He then worked 23 years as Assistant Registrar at Southeast Missouri State University, retiring in 1995.

Loving survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mona Hamilton of Jackson; children, Steven D. (Marta) Hamilton of Boulder, Colorado, and Janet K. Hume of Jackson; a grandson, Landon Hume of Jackson; and a brother, Raymond (Rita) Hamilton of Cheyenne, Wyoming.
