Iona Askew

Iona Mae Askew, 90, of Cape Girardeau passed away peacefully of natural causes Wednesday, January 31, 2018.

Iona was born January 2nd, 1928, in Durham, North Carolina, daughter of Emma L and Ervin H Perry.

Iona met and married the love of her life, Bill Askew, June 8, 1946, in Durham, N.C.

Iona and her family were lifelong members of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir.

She spent her leisure time visiting with and caring for her loved ones, sewing, bowling, walking and reading.

Survivors include four children: Susan Yvonne Askew of Tarpon Springs, FL, Bill (Carol) Askew Jr. of KY/MO, Shireen (Bill) Eckelmann of Jackson, MO, Kimberly (Kenny) Weik of Festus, MO; nine grandchildren, Robert Askew, Chris Askew, Angie Askew, Travis Eckelmann, Amy Eckelmann Harvey, Sydney Weik, Jonathon Weik, Ryan Weik, Rachel Weik; and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jennings Askew Sr., her parents; a sister, Azalea Williams, and a brother, Russel Perry.

She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Iona was supportive of and devoted to her family. She left countless memories behind, as she was always sewing beautiful pieces for her loved ones.

A graveside service will be Friday, February 9, 2018, at 10:30 am, at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Mike Shupert officiating.
