Jack Devore

November 24, 1941 — February 19, 2017

Jackie Lee "Jack" DeVore, 75, of Jackson, formerly of Whitewater passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 at his home.

He was born November 24, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, son of Ira Lee and Glenda "Azalea" Slinkard DeVore. He and Janice Ann Copman were married February 19, 1960.

Jack was a 1959 graduate of Delta High School. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson and was a former member of Whitewater United Methodist Church in Whitewater. He worked for Consolidated Grain and Barge, retiring in 2007 and was a farmer in the Whitewater Community. Jack was an avid golfer, was a member of Bent Creek Golf Course and was a member of SEMO Seniors Golf Association. He loved his family; his children and grandchildren meant the world to him, but Jack especially loved the Lord and had tremendous faith in Jesus Christ.

Loving survivors include his wife of 57 years, Janice DeVore; a daughter, Jackie (David Jr.) Retherford of Advance; a son, Scott DeVore of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, Stephanie DeVore of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Staci DeVore of Cape Girardeau, David Retherford and Jack Retherford of Advance; a sister, Sharon (Mike) Coats of West Plains, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Glenda Faye Godwin of Cape Girardeau; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at chapel A of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Whitewater United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Don Kuehle officiating, assisted by Rev. Brad Moore.

Interment will follow in Whitewater United Methodist Cemetery.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Whitewater United Methodist Church Cemetery or the donor's choice.
