James Henry Swift Sr., 81, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born on November 23, 1943, in Sedalia, son of Harold Glenn and Edna Lucille Bennett Swift. He and Linda McManus were married on February 15, 1975. James honorably served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964, the Navy Seabees from 1964 to 1978 and the Missouri National Guard from 1980 to 1984. He and Linda were team drivers for Delta Express and LTI Trucking, retiring in 2013. James enjoyed woodworking, being with friends and family, fishing, camping and photography. Loving survivors include his wife, Linda Swift of Jackson; five children, Julie Thomas of York Springs, Pennsylvania, Cindy Swift of Marion, Indiana, Vince (Shelly) Jordan of Jackson, Jr (Nicole) Swift of Gordonville and Patrick Swift of Jackson; grandchildren, Jay Thomas, Carlisha Bounds, Morgan Mayfield, Kelsey Payne, Carl Newell III, Taylor and Tristan Randol, Dakota Swift, Madison Swift, Brodie Hawks, Keagen Winkler, Gavin Winkler, Audrey Swift and Makayla Hawkins; many great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; two sisters, Pam Glassow and Sherri Dye both of Mill City, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Samantha Swift; grandson, Michael Bounds; three brothers, Donnie Eugene Swift, Jackie Glenn Swift and John Lee Swift. Cremation arrangements by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Junior Swift’s Home (Swift’s Eagles Nest) 241 County Road 226 Cape Girardeau 63701.
