James Edward "Jim" Tyler, 89, of Jackson, passed away Monday, February 19, 2024, at his home. He was born February 16, 1935, in Winkle, Illinois, to Louis and Lucille Rainey Tyler. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Marines on April 2, 1952. While serving in Japan, he and Seiko Okamoto were married June 25, 1954. Three children were born to their union, Edward, David, and Edrye. They had been married 60 years when Seiko passed away July 10, 2014. Jim's career in the U.S. Marines spanned 24 years and included both the Korean War and Vietnam War. He retired as a Captain on September 9, 1976, and embarked on a 20-year management career with ACF Industries. During this time, Jim earned two Master of Science in Business degrees. Loving survivors include three children: son, Edward (Becky) Tyler of Sikeston, Missouri, and family, Andrew Tyler (moved to heaven 10-27-2004); Hannah (Wesley) Timm and children Lottie, Samuel, Duke, and Shadrach Tyler; son, David (Sandra) Tyler of Ladue, Missouri and children Molly (Becki Bolinger) Tyler; Natalie Tyler (fiancé Kaleb Colley); and daughter, Edrye (Fred) Kelly and children, Felicia (Derek) Pease, James (Jeni) Kelly, and John Kelly (fiancé Madelyn Gordan). He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents. Jim's wish was for a private family gathering at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. He was then honored with full military rites and laid to rest next to Seiko at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
