Jean Ann McLain, age 74, of Cape Girardeau, passed away peacefully at her home on
Friday, August 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 9, 1951, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Lyman and Jewel
(Frances) Moore. On December 27, 1969, she married George McLain, and together
they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage.
Jean was a proud graduate of Cape Central High School and a lifelong resident of Cape
Girardeau. She dedicated her life to caring for her family, which brought her the greatest
joy.
She is survived by her devoted husband, George McLain; her mother, Jewel Moore; two
daughters, Malinda (James) Day and Monica (Ben) Duncan of Sikeston; two cherished
grandchildren, Waylon Schaffer and Axel Cole Duncan; and three siblings, Fred (Vivian)
Moore, Jim (Kathy) Moore, and Joni (Kevin) Stanley.
She was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Wilson McLain and her father, Lyman
Moore.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3,
2025, at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. A private family burial will take
place at a later date.
Jean will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her gentle spirit, and
the many lives she touched throughout the years.
Memorial Contributions are suggested to be made in Jean’s memory to the American
Cancer Society or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
