Jeanette (Schuette) Bollinger

E. Jeanette Bollinger, 86, a lifelong resident of Jackson, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau after a long hard fight with health issues for seven years.

The oldest of two children, Jeanette was born February 12, 1936, in Jackson, to Ernest W. and Minnie E. Conder Schuette.  Nearly 10 years later, Jeanette got her baby brother, Darrell Schuette.  Tragically, Darrell passed away July 20, 2022. She married Larry N. Bollinger on July 3, 1955, at the parsonage of First Baptist Church.

Jeanette was a 1954 graduate of Jackson High School and was still a die-hard “Jackson Indian Fan” listening to ballgames. She worked and retired as a clerk at the ASCS Office in Jackson. She then worked part-time as a receptionist for an insurance firm before fully retiring to be a grandma to her three grandchildren and GiGi to her four great grandchildren—her family was her love.

In addition to her employment, she began giving her full attention to church and other civic obligations. She was instrumental in working with the Jackson Optimist Girls Basketball Program, serving as a 4H leader, serving on the Jackson R-2 School Board ten years, and serving as a charter member of the Jackson R-2 School Foundation. She was also a good cook and seamstress—she enjoyed making clothes for herself and the kids. Jeanette traveled many miles watching her grandkids play sports and show cattle, and we can’t forget how much she loved watching her St. Louis Cardinals.

Jeanette was always faithful in Christian service.  For many years, her membership was with First Baptist Church in Jackson, where she played the organ for worship services, taught Sunday school, and served as a G.A. Leader.  In essence, if there was work to be done at the church, Jeanette could always be found doing her part.  In 2003, some members of First Baptist envisioned a more contemporary worship experience, and Crossroads Fellowship in Jackson was established. Again, Jeanette was willing to serve on the Compassion Team (she loved sending cards to people) and headed the prayer chain at Crossroads for many years. Her love of God, family, friends, and community was exemplified by her dedicated service.

Loving survivors include her husband of 67 years, Larry N. Bollinger of Jackson; two children, Brent (Mary Schoenebeck) Bollinger and Becky (Dave) Riney of Jackson; three grandchildren, Amanda (Trent) Forester and children Braylen and Hayden Forester of Jackson; Matt (Erika Cook) Bollinger and children, Harlow Cook and Riley Bollinger of Jackson; Michael Riney and fiancé Olivia Litwicki of Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Ann Hunt (the late Darrell) Schuette and nephew Dan (Gloria) Schuette, niece Shelly (Stephen) Daume; Helen (the late Jerry) Bollinger of Onodaga, Michigan; and several other nieces and nephews on Larry’s side of the family.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Minnie Schuette; a brother, Darrell Schuette; Larry’s parents, Robert and Cora Mae Mayfield Bollinger; and Larry’s siblings, Denzil (Mary) Bollinger, Lenzil (Charlene) Bollinger, Rosalie (Troy) Proffer, Bobby (Mina) Bollinger, and Jerry Bollinger.

There will be a memorial visitation from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Monday, September 19, 2022, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.  Rev. Brian Anderson will conduct a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., Monday at the funeral home.  The family will honor Jeanette with a private graveside service at a later date.
