Jeanette (Davis) Wichern

Shawneetown, Missouri

Betty Jeanette Wichern, age 85, of Shawneetown passed away Friday, August 24, 2018 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born June 13, 1933 in Pell City, Alabama, daughter of Charlton King and Myrtle Irene McAlister Davis. She and John Walter Wichern were married September 25, 1958.

Jeanette was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. She was a member of the church’s Ladies Aid and a former Sunday school teacher. Jeanette was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and dedicated her life to her family.  She loved time together with her grandchildren and received great pleasure in being a great-grandmother.  She also enjoyed crafts, being a 4-H leader and gardening.

Loving survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, John Wichern, of Shawneetown; two children, Joy Smith of Jackson and James (Debra) Wichern of Lenexa, Kansas; four granddaughters and three grandsons-in-laws; seven great-grandchildren with one soon to arrive. Also surviving are three sisters and a brother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and two brothers.

The visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2018 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday August 27, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the church, with the Rev. Virgil Kelm officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery in Pocahontas.

The family suggests that contributions be made to Autism Awareness of Southeast Missouri P.O. Box 57 Jackson, Missouri 63755.
