Jerry Neal Morton, 88, of Jackson passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at his home. He was born September 5, 1935, in Jackson, the son of Ed and Hester Medlock Morton. He and Linda Stearns were married on August 5, 1961, in Scott City. Jerry worked 37 years at Lenco and retired from the Parks Department of the City of Jackson. He farmed most of his life in addition to his full-time vocation. In his younger years, Jerry enjoyed playing ball. He later enjoyed hunting and fishing, but above all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends on his front porch. Jerry and Linda attended New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. Survivors of Jerry's immediate family include his wife of nearly 63 years, Linda Morton of Jackson; children, Beverly (late Tim) Tuschhoff of Jackson and Jeffery (Mary) Morton of Jackson; four granddaughters: Heather (Derek) Palisch and daughters Emily and Aubrie of Jackson; Jessica (Aric) Holzbauer of Cape Girardeau; Chelsea (Phil) Wichern and children Ella and Evan of Jackson; Shelby (Kyle) Bollinger of Benton (birth of a son anticipated in November). Jerry's surviving siblings include Betty (late Bill) Hink of Florissant, Missouri; Doris (Roger) King and Glen (Evelyn) Morton of Jackson. Survivors of Linda's family includes her sister, Mary (late Bud) James of Patton; brothers-in-law, John (late Sue) Clippard of Oak Ridge; Charles (late Carma) Newell of Jackson; sisters-in-law, Georgia (late Bob) Stearns of Jackson, and Brenda (late Richard) Stearns of Lonedell, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Hester Morton; son-in-law, Tim Tuschhoff; brother, Leon (Mary) Morton; and Linda's siblings and their spouses, Virgil (Minnie) Stearns, Fred (Rosemary) Stearns, Earlene (Clarence) Langston, and Patsy Wendel. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 25, 2024, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 26, 2024, at the funeral home, with the Revs. Bryan Wendling, Jimmie Corbin, and Charles Buck officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Jackson. If considering a memorial contribution, the family suggests Mercy Southeast Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.
