Jerry Schwab

Jerry Lee Schwab, son of Arthur “Hatz” Schwab and Nellie Stroder Schwab, was born November 15, 1933, in Cape Girardeau and passed from this life on Friday, September 11, 2026, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was 92.

Jerry graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1956 with a degree in accounting. He then served in the United States Army from January 12, 1956, until he was honorably discharged January 8, 1958.

Jerry enjoyed a 50-year career as a certified public accountant. Treating his clients like family, he found great satisfaction in his long-term relationships with them, as tax advisor and preparer.

A devout Lutheran, Jerry was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and later a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He filled many roles within the churches he attended, serving on numerous committees and as head usher. Jerry was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Home for many years and transitioned to a position on the Resident’s Board at the Lutheran Home, when he relocated to their campus.

Additionally, Jerry enjoyed fishing and gardening and loved every dog he ever met; especially his constant companion, Monk, in whose name he founded a dog park. Jerry was well-known for his dry sense of humor and fondness for wearing stylish suspenders.

He married Carolyn Louise Moeller on May 3, 1959, in Cape Girardeau. They had three children, Steven, Scott, and Stacy.

Loving survivors include his wife of 70 years, Carolyn; daughter-in-law, Tammy Schwab of Allen Texas; son, Scott Schwab and his wife Dawn of St. Louis; and daughter, Stacy Barker and husband Randy of St. Augustine, Florida; two granddaughters, Haley Schwab and Asher McNamee; two great grandchildren, Ricky Robbins and Kherington Robbins; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Schwab; and a niece Ginger Schwab.

He was preceded in death by his son Steven; parents; a brother, John Schwab; and a granddaughter Heather Schwab.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the chapel of Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau with Rev. Barry Pfanstiel officiating.

If considering a memorial contribution, the family suggests contributions be made to The Lutheran Home or Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary in Jackson.
