Jimmie Ray Dace, 81, of Pocahontas, Missouri died Wednesday, April 22, 2026 after following a brief illness. His beloved family was by his side.

Jim was born February 7, 1945, to Quentin A. and Geneva Gladys Copeland Dace. He was born at St. Louis Maternity Hospital, the oldest of eight children.

Jim graduated from Sullivan High School in 1963, and St. Paul School of Theology in 1977. He became a Deacon and then a Full Elder in the United Methodist Church.

Jim served churches in the Missouri East Conference, the Missouri West Conference, and the Missouri Conference. He retired in 2010 after 42 years of service.

Jim served two churches in a part-time capacity after retirement and continued to teach Bible Studies. His great passion was genealogy, and he could always find a link to anyone else who did family history.

Jim recently finished his research and became a member of The Sons of the American Revolution, where he served as Chaplin.

Jim attended New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson where he was much respected for his biblical scholarship.

Jimmie and Doris Anne Derendinger were married in Bourbon, Missouri on August 16, 1969. They are the parents of a son, John Quentin (Quen) Dace. Quen is married to Gayla Ann (Slusher) Dace, and they are the parents of Emma LeeAnn and William Gustive Dace.

Jim is survived by five sisters: Mary Ann Center, Billie Joyce Witt and Gladys Geneva (Beverly) Daniel of Sullivan, Missouri; Dianna May (David) Richards of Rittman, Ohio; Judy Kay (Paul) Hartung of Warrenton, Missouri; a brother Quentin Ralph Dace of New Orleans, Louisiana; sisters-in-law Mary Derendinger and Linda Derendinger, both of Boonville, Missouri, and many cousins and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Sue Dace Canoy; brothers-in-law Kenny Witt, Gene Center, Bernard Oswald, John Ed Derendinger, Kenneth Derendinger, and Robert Gilbert Johnston.

Jim’s infectious laugh and kind manner will be missed.
