Jimmy Earl Allen

July 20, 1957 — May 24, 2024

Cape Girardeau, Missouri

Maj. Jimmy Earl Allen, 66, of Cape Girardeau, passed away peacefully Friday, May 24, 2024, surrounded by his family, at his home wearing the full armor of God and "Leaning forward in the saddle." He was born July 20, 1957, in Marlin, Texas, to Earl and Christine (White) Allen.  Later, he moved to Austin, Texas and graduated from Austin High School.  In 1975, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, honorably serving for 26 years, retiring at the rank of Major in 2001. During his time of service, he completed training for Combat Vehicle transition team, Platoon Trainer course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School and Field Artillery Officer. He also trained in Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defense. He proudly served in the 3rd Battalion 132nd Field Artillery unit, 3rd Battalion 30th Field Artillery Unit, 3rd Battalion 112th Armor and 4th Battalion 133D Field Artillery. His dedication and love for his country and fellow soldiers earned him numerous awards and medals. In keeping with his patriotism, He was an avid war history buff with a collection of WWII, Korean War military tactics and medical books. If he was not watching sports, you could find him watching old war movies and educating whoever would listen about the tanks, guns and tactics, often comparing it to his own time and experiences. Jimmy also earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New York in 1994 and a Master's degree from the University of Phoenix in 2005. After retiring from the military in 2001, Jimmy went to work for Nucor Steel NY Division as an auditor and later transferred to the steel plant in Blytheville, Arkansas retiring from there in 2017, as a materials inspector. Jimmy was an avid football, baseball, and softball fan, with the University of Texas Longhorns having his heart. His fondness for University of Texas Longhorns often had him loudly armchair coaching every game he watched on TV, as he was a true Texan through and through. Jimmy spent several years supporting and coaching the softball teams of his two daughters, enjoying every second on the field, helping them perfect their skills, and more recently enjoyed watching his oldest granddaughter begin her journey playing t-ball. Jimmy loved the Lord and was an ordained minister with the Restoration Branch of the Church of Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His two daughters and three grandchildren were the light of his life, and he especially enjoyed spending time with them. Loving survivors include his wife, Suzan of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Linzee Rosen-Allen and Paige Rosen-Allen; granddaughters, Hallie and Evelyn; grandson Cameron; faithful canine companion Charlie; two siblings, Joan (Alex) Vick and David (Kelly) Allen of Buckner, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Phillip Allen. If considering a memorial contribution, the family suggests Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation or Wounded Warrior Project. Cremation arranged by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, with services to be announced later.
