Johnnie “Steve” Haupt

Johnnie Steven "Steve" Haupt, 66, of Cape Girardeau, husband of Kathie Bryant Haupt, passed away on their 44th wedding anniversary, Friday, March 2, 2018, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

Steve was born June 10, 1951, to Johnnie and Mary Brasher Haupt. He and Kathie were married March 2, 1974, at First Assembly of God Church in Cape Girardeau. Three sons were born to their union.

Steve was a 1969 graduate of Jackson High School. He worked over 29 years at Procter & Gamble, retiring in 2002.

He was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He liked to fish and work on his motorcycle, but especially enjoyed spending time with his five grandsons.

Loving survivors include his wife, Kathie of Jackson; three sons: Johnnie D. (Jeanette) Haupt of Avondale, Missouri; Robert (Kim) Haupt and sons Devyn, Aidyn, Graisyn, and Nolyn of Jackson; and Thomas (Nikki) Haupt and son Isaiah of Gig Harbor, Washington; his father, Johnnie (the late Mary E.) Haupt of Jackson; two siblings, Lana (the late Lewis "Butch") Pierce of Maryland Heights, Missouri, Pam (Larry) Wendel of Elizabeth, Colorado; four nieces and nephews, Mindy (Daniel) Belue, Jeremy (Liz) Pierce, Christopher (Shellie) Wendel, and Kelsey Wendel; 11 great-nephews and nieces; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and a brother-in-law, Lewis "Butch" Pierce.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 6, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m., at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be Wednesday, March 7, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dave Thompson officiating.

Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with the Gold Wing Road Riders leading the procession.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the the American Diabetes Association.
