Johnny Wayne Newell, Jr., 48, of Oak Ridge, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 2, 1967, in Cape Girardeau, son of Johnny W. and Christine Edwards Newell, Sr.
Johnny attended Jackson High School. He worked 10 years for Mr. Muffler in Cape Girardeau, and was self-employed as an auto mechanic. He shod and broke horses, and had won several buckles for competition cattle roping. He enjoyed fishing, rock crawling with Jeeps, and loved being with family.
Loving survivors include a son, Justin Scheper (partner, Dustin) of Jackson; his mother and step-father, Clinton and Christine Ruppel of Oak Ridge; his father and step-mother, Johnny Wayne and Cheryl Newell, Sr., of Oak Ridge; two sisters, Brandy (Justin) Walker of Orlando, Florida, and Tessa Newell (fiancé, Tanner) of Oak Ridge; two nieces, Harper and Berkley; and a nephew, Grasyn.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, John and Allene Edwards, paternal grandparents, John Adam and Dessie Newell; two uncles, Terry Lane Newell and Adam Newell. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home with Revs. Steven Koerner and Larry Matthews officiating.
Interment will follow in Old Salem Methodist Cemetery near Millersville.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the family for Johnny's monument.
