Josie Viola Bagby, 86, of Hinkley, Illinois, formerly of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the home of a daughter.
She was born January 8, 1930, in Ullin, Illinois, to Arthur and Josie Helen Schultz Ervin. She and Austin Bagby were married July 26, 1946, in Villa Ridge, Illinois. They had been married 68 years when Austin passed away February 3, 2015.
The Bagbys raised their family in Villa Ridge and Aurora, Illinois. Josie was a homemaker and farmed with Austin many years near Villa Ridge. They were members of the former Nazarene Church in Aurora.
In 1986, they moved to Cape Girardeau and became active members of the Nazarene Church. In 2003, they moved to Jackson and became members of First Church of the Nazarene, where they both formerly served on the church board.
As long as Josie's health allowed, she remained active. She and Austin enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing.
Loving survivors include four children, Warren (Cindy) Bagby of Dixon, Illinois, Myra Elaine (Larry) Donoho of La Moille, Illinois, Ellen (Larry) Whitfield of Hinckley, Illinois, Frances (Charles) Rieckert of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Michael Bagby of Champaign, Illinois, Courtney (Ray) Holtz of DeKalb, Illinois, Merle Donoho of Ohio, Illinois, Sherry (Adam) Donoho of Washburn, Illinois, Dean (Sheryl) Whitfield of Hinckley, Illinois, Matthew Whitfield of Plano, Illinois, Adam (Heidi) Rieckert of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Charles "Chuckie" Rieckert, Jr., and five siblings.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 30, 2016, from 3 p.m. to service time, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be Saturday, July 30, 2016, at 5 p.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ken Harper officiating.
Burial will be private in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to First Church of the Nazarene in Jackson.
