Joyce Jean Zschille, 94, of Jackson, passed away Friday, December 16, 2022, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by her loving family.
One of five children, Joyce was born December 11, 1928, in Morehouse, Missouri, to Austin and Alice Mae Stewart Page. She was a graduate of Cape Central High School in Cape Girardeau.
Joyce and Herman H. Zschille, Jr. “Jr”, of Jackson, were married February 10, 1948. They made their home on the Zschille family farm, north of Jackson, where Joyce continued to live. Two children were born to their union, Steve and Susan. After the children were a little older, Joyce worked 25 years at Roziers in Jackson, but she loved farm life and always did her part. She especially enjoyed working in the yard.
Joyce enjoyed attending the grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events (baseball, basketball, soccer and wrestling). There were also numerous dance recitals. She was an avid Jackson sports fan especially football and basketball.
Raised Southern Baptist, Joyce embraced Jr.’s church, Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson, where they were faithful members. Joyce was often quoted as saying, “Christ first, then family, and everything else will fall into place.” Joyce taught children’s Sunday school and adult classes for 60 years, held many offices in the Bethany Circle and Women’s Fellowship, and fulfilled numerous committee obligations. She also worked in Church Women United.
Joyce and Jr. had been married 66 years when Jr. passed away February 12, 2014.
Loving survivors include two children, Steve (Kathy) Zschille of Sedgewickville, and Susan Loenneke of Jackson; five grandchildren, Christi (Keith) Peters of St. Louis, Matthew (Karrie) Zschille and Ben (Krissy) Loenneke of Jackson, Dr. Jeremy Loenneke of Oxford, Mississippi, and Dustin Jones of Sedgewickville.; eight great-grandchildren, Nicholas Loenneke, Keagan and Maklain Zschille, Sydney, Peyton, and Brynn Peters, Alissa and Gunner Jones; three siblings, Walter “Bud” (Sandi) Allen of Canon City, Colorado, Sally (Rex) Miller of Fountain, Colorado, and Mary French (Keith Dean) of Parkinson, Mississippi.
