Juanita (Phelps) Chapman

Juanita Chapman, age 83, of Jackson passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019 surrounded by loving family and friends at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born March 6, 1936, in Hamilton County, Ohio, daughter of Derill and Martha Ellen Hargis Phelps. She and Alfred Chapman were married July 3, 1952 in Somerset, Kentucky. He passed away June 23, 2001.

Juanita was a member of Whitewater United Methodist Church in Whitewater and had previously attended Connection Point Church and most recently attended Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson. She worked as a caregiver and worked in food preparation for Estes Deli for many years. Juanita enjoyed gardening and canning. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan.

Loving survivors include three daughters, Evelyn (J.E.) Wiseman of Whitewater, Donna Bolen of Jackson, Patti (Darren) McCallister of Jackson; a son, Lee (Ashley) Chapman of Whitewater; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren

Also surviving are a brother, Bob (Emma) Phelps of Somerset, KY; and two sisters-in-law, Opal Gast of Whitewater and Gladys Phelps St. Louis, and special friend Bernice Hargis, Linda Estes, and many others at Jackson's Senior Garden Apartments.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, an infant son, Arnold Ray Chapman; a great grandson, James William Bolen; seven siblings, Carroll Phelps, Irene Chapman, Curtis Mae Dykes, Vera Jean Woodall, Glen Phelps, Lou Irma Woodall, and William Phelps.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 from 4 to 8 pm in Chapel A at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be 10 am on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019 at the funeral home, with the Revs. Mike Huffman and Don Kuehle officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Whitewater United Methodist Church or the church or charity of donor’s choice.
