Judy Johnson Niswonger, 73, of Jackson passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born on March 2, 1952, in Savannah, Georgia, daughter of Marshall Myers and Winifred Chadwick Johnson. She and Don Niswonger were married on November 24, 1984, in Savannah. Judy was a 1970 graduate of Robert Groves High School in Savannah, then attended Georgia Baptist College of Nursing, graduating in 1972. Judy worked at Georgia Baptist Hospital from 1970 to 1989, then at Southeast Hospital from 1989 to 2016. She also worked for Fresenius Kidney Care in Cape Girardeau from 2011 to 2021, then retired. A dedicated nurse for 49 years, Judy touched the lives of countless patients and families with kindness, empathy, and her beautiful smile. Loving survivors include her husband, Don Niswonger of Jackson; sister, Susan (late Danny) Murray of Savannah; brother-in-law, Randy (Kay) Culver of Savannah; a cousin who was like a sister, Leigh (Harry) Ward of Tybee Island, Georgia; an Aunt, Frances King, of Anderson, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Lynn (Janie) Niswonger, of Ocala, Florida; sister-in-law, Julie (late Robert) Niswonger of Ocala; daughter, Michelle (Jen) Sims of Austin, Texas; cousin, Ray (Ellen) Johnston of Savannah: nephews, Zach (Cindy) Murray of Charleston, South Carolina, David (Iris) Niswonger of Crestview, Florida, Geoff (Mira) Niswonger of Warrenton, Virginia and Jarod (Jamie) Niswonger of Summerfield, Florida; nieces, Kate (Dave) Pommenville, Quincey Culver and Elizabeth Culver, all of Pooler, Georgia, Laura (Brian) Arthur of Cape Girardeau, Amy (Rich) Lucy and Nicole Parker of Florida; cousins Jamie Ward and Tim (Karen) King, both of Panama City, Florida; two grandchildren, Jett and Max Sims of Austin; and two great nephews and two great nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Dover and Pansye Johnson; sister, Dixie Culver; brother-in-law, Danny Murray; an aunt Mary Johnston; an uncle Bill Johnston, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dallas and Juanita Niswonger, and a brother-in-law, Robert Niswonger. The celebration of life will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Private interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson at a later date. In lieu flowers the family suggest memorial contribution be made to the National Kidney Foundation or Southeast Missouri Food Bank.
