Lala Hendrix

March 11, 1921 — November 2, 1995

Lala Virginia "Sue" Hendrix, 95, of Cape Girardeau, danced her way to the Lord on March 8, 2017 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, MO.

She was born March 11, 1921, in Charleston, Missouri, to Eddie Wade and Frocie Lee (Smith) Pennebaker. While working at the former Brown Shoe Factory in Charleston, Missouri, she met the love of her life, Troy I. Hendrix. They were married March 24, 1939, in Charleston, and five children were born to their union. They had been married 56 years when he passed away November 2, 1995.

Lala was a member of the Oak Ridge Baptist Church and was previously employed at the former Roziers' Department Store in Jackson. She also worked with her husband on their farm and stump grinding business. She enjoyed square dancing and dancing at the Little Ole Opry and other local venues. She and Troy enjoyed spending winters in Texas with their RV.

Lala always said her greatest accomplishment was raising five good kids and she would tell everyone to keep on dancing.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Rosalee Hendrix of Cape Girardeau and Becky (Ken) Eftink of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Gary (Donna) Hendrix of Jackson and Stephen (Marcia) Hendrix of Jackson; a daughter-in-law Kay (the late Troy D.) Hendrix of Jackson; two brothers, Charles (Norma) Pennebaker of Dixon, Missouri and Bob (Minnie) Pennebaker of Daisy, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Troy D. Hendrix; a grandson, Nicholas Hendrix; three brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, March 12, 2017, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 13, 2017, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.
