Lane M. Cunningham, 82, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017, at his home.
He was born December 5, 1934, in Burfordville, Missouri, to Ralph M. and Pauline "Pat" McDaniel Cunningham. He and Gladys F. "Faye" Masters were married May 30, 1977.
Lane was a 1952 graduate of Cape Central High School. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from July 10, 1953 to July 9, 1956. Upon his return from the service, he studied two years at SEMO and then attended Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Indiana, earning a degree in electrical engineering.
Lane was employed at Lockheed AFB in Atlanta, Georgia and McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis. Upon returning to Jackson, he earned his agent's license in commercial and residential real estate and briefly worked at the former Heritage Savings and Loan in Jackson. In 1971, Lane and his brother, Larry, established Cunningham Brothers Realty and in 1985, they established Cunningham Brothers Appraisal, both in Jackson.
Lane was a member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, Elks 2652, and Excelsior Masonic Lodge 441, both in Jackson. He was a 32nd degree member of the Valley of St. Louis Scottish Rite in St. Louis and a member of First Baptist Church in Burfordville.
Lane enjoyed boating and lake activities. He was an avid golfer and achieved a hole-in-one, to his amazement as well as everyone else's.
Loving survivors include his wife of 39 years, Faye of Cape Girardeau; two siblings: Betty Cunningham Nordin and husband Jack of Chaffee, Missouri, Larry Cunningham and wife Sheila of Jackson; three sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Masters McDowell of Jackson, Karen Masters Stevenson and husband Robert "Skip" of Cape Girardeau, Ethel Masters Thornbrue and husband John of Muskogee, Oklahoma; eight nieces and nephews: Vickie Nordin Dumey of Chaffee, Stacy Cunningham Schott of Austin, Texas, Kyle McDowell of Jackson, Shane Sinn of Cape Girardeau, Travis Sinn of St. Louis, Kimberlee Kae Kinder Adams of St. Louis, Bob Kinder of Jackson, and Ed Kinder of LeMoore, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a niece, Mary Melissa McDowell.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 17, 2017, from 10 a.m. to service time, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at 1 p.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Josh Boley officiating and family friend, Mark Kiblinger assisting.
The committal will be Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at 3 p.m., at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with full military honors.
