Jackson, Missouri

Larry “Flipp” Eugene Wilson, 77, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday December 13, 2023, at The Villas of Jackson in Jackson.

He was born April 13, 1946, in Cape Girardeau, to Eugene and Betty Morton Wilson.  He was raised in the Presbyterian faith.

Larry was a 1964 graduate of Jackson High School.  He honorably served 22 years in the U.S. Army National Guard as a Staff Sergeant with Company A, 1140th Engineer Battalion (Combat) in Jackson.

He worked at the Coca Cola Bottling Company in Jackson after graduating from high school, and then began working for Lenco. He then spent 28 years working with the Procter & Gamble Company until his retirement.

Larry was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, and The Elks Lodge #2652 in Jackson. He was recognized by the Grand Lodge Order of Elks, ELKS USA for Officer of the Year, and Elk of the Year, and 1 year of Outstanding Service Commendation. He was presented the Elk of the Year from Lodge #2652 for 4 years.  He received awards for Bull Elk of the year, Outstanding Service, and Elk of the Month. He also worked daily at the lodge along with the ER, for the good of the lodge, until his health declined.

To cherish his memory are two children: Kimberly Wilson (Larry Schlesinger) of Riverview, Florida and James (Lisa) Schamburg of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren: Sterling McCarroll of Jackson, Hyland McCarroll of Jackson, Caitlynn Schamburg of Perryville, Chelsea (Nathan) Britton of Jackson; a sister Virgina Browne of Jackson; a niece, Melissa Childers, of Kansas City, Missouri; and two nephews, Jeffery Kinder of Jackson and Brent Kinder of Kansas City, Missouri; his former wife, caregiver, and mother of his children, Linda Penzel of Oak Ridge; and many beloved best friends, too many to name but they know who they are.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The following arrangements will be held at the Elks Lodge in Jackson on Sunday, December 17, 2023.  Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m.  There will be an American Legion Honor Guard Ceremony at 4 p.m., followed by an Elks Ceremony, concluding with a life celebration service by Rev. Fred Burgard.

Later, he will laid to rest at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

If considering a memorial donation, the family suggests the Elks Christmas Basket Project.
