Lawrence L. Godfrey

Lawrence “Larry” L. Godfrey, 81, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, passed away January 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born July 30, 1944, in Commerce, Missouri, to Clifton and Ahleen (Bonds) Godfrey. Lawrence spent his childhood on a farm near Dexter, Missouri, which shaped his character and forged lifelong friendships. He and Linda McCarty were married August 15, 1964.

A 1962 graduate of Dexter High School, Lawrence earned his degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 1969. He dedicated many years of his professional life to Riverside Home Center and later to Horizon Screen printing and Promotional Products. Known for his dependable work ethic, kindness, and easygoing nature, he built meaningful relationships everywhere he worked.

Lawrence is survived by his wife of 61 years, Linda K. Godfrey of Cape Girardeau; daughters, Lori Godfrey of Cape Girardeau and Wendy (David) Wiseman of Waynesville, Missouri; and his cherished granddaughter, Sarah Wiseman of St. Petersburg, Florida. He is also survived by his sister, Margie Elam, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and honorary grandchildren who held a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores Williams; brothers, Harlan “Junior” Godfrey and Carl Godfrey; and a niece, Beth Godfrey.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Larry Dowdy will conduct the funeral service at noon, Tuesday, January 27. Interment will follow in Armstead Dowdy Cemetery, west of Dexter on Hwy. ZZ, south of Highway 60.
