Laverl Lee Ussery, age 69, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016 at his home.
He was born November 27, 1946 in Oriole, Mo, the son of Everett and Gusta Ilene McClard Ussery. He and Lana Lunsford were married September 8, 1964.
Laverl was employed 49 years in commercial barge traffic and was a respected riverboat captain. He adored his family and loved to travel.
Loving survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lana; four daughters, Sherry (Boyd) Edmonds of Oriole, Lera Ussery of Oriole, Cindy Ussery of Wittenberg, Mo, and Alana (Jeffrey) Dillingham of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Clara Farrow of Oriole; 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Charles Ussery, and a sister, Dorothy Farrow.
The visitation will be from 10 am until time of service on Monday, October 24, 2016 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral service will be at 2 pm on Monday, October 24st, at the funeral home, with Boyd Edmonds officiating.
Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
The family suggests that contributions be made to North Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Post Office Box 12167, Cape Girardeau, MO 63702.
