Leola A. Scholl, 87, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born August 27, 1937, in Farrar, Missouri, to Martin and Agnes (Koenig) Koenig. She was baptized and confirmed and Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar and was a graduate of the church’s grade school. After a Lutheran League gathering, Leola met Paul Ray Scholl of Pocahontas, at Ewald’s Bar-B-Q in Perryville. They were married September 6, 1959, at Salem Church.
By trade, Paul was a sign maker, and they followed his work in the communities of Perryville, Sikeston, and Cape Girardeau. In the mid-1960’s, they settled and raised their family in Jackson.
Leola took great pride in being a homemaker. She was an excellent cook and baker. She had the Perry County knack for making coffee cake and enjoyed canning fruit and produce. Her other talents included crocheting, needle point, quilting, and sewing. After her children were older, she was employed at the Lutheran Home.
She and Paul are current members of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. They are former members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Paul Scholl of Jackson; children, Terry (Kara) Scholl of Jackson; Sharon (Jim) McMillan of Herrin, Illinois; and Kevin (LaVanda) Scholl of Arnold, Missouri; grandchildren, Erica (Clay) Rouse and children Jack and Claire; Brendan Scholl; and Madison (Jake) Mayfield of Cape Girardeau.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Hayden Scholl; her parents, Martin and Agnes (Koenig) Koenig; a brother, Delmar (Ruby) Koenig; Paul’s parents, Otto and Lena Ludwig Scholl; and Paul’s sister, Margaret (Harlan) Meyr.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time, Tuesday, January 7, 2024, at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Rod Benkendorf, assisted by Vicar Curtis, will conduct the funeral service at 12 p.m., Tuesday, at the church. Interment will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
