Lola Mae Cherry, age 89 of Cape Girardeau, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020 at the Chaffee Nursing Home in Chaffee, Missouri.
She was born December 29, 1930 in Clarksville, Arkansas the daughter of Samuel Alexander and Eva Merle Warren Barnett. She married George “Leon” Cherry October 3, 1948. They had been married 64 years at the time he preceded her in death June 21, 2013.
Lola was an avid gardener. She especially enjoyed caring for her flowers. She was an accomplished seamstress and through the years had sewed many quilts for her family and friends. Lola spent most of her free time reading.
Loving survivors include three children; Barbara Bungard of Chillicothe, Illinois, Elizabeth (Frank) Madl of Cape Coral, Florida; and David (Melissa) Cherry of Scott City, Missouri; six grandchildren, Brian (Tiffany) Bungard, Jeff (Denise) Bungard, Dayne Cherry, Dylan Cherry, Troy Phegley, and Jennifer (Brad) DeVoss; seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Also surviving are three siblings, Emma Bohannon, Marilyn Richards, and Arlis Barnett.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Phil Bungard.
A private family service is to be held and burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
