Loy B. Shrum

November 21, 1942 — October 4, 2020

Millersville, Missouri

Loy Basil Shrum, 77, of Millersville, passed away October 4, 2020 at his home.

He was born November 21, 1942, in Patton, Missouri, to Thomas Benjamin Franklin “B. F.” and Hester Mae Lorance Shrum.  He and Alta “Pete” Bollinger were married November 11, 1962, at Sedgewickville United Methodist Church.

Loy was a lifelong cattle and crop farmer.  His other employment included the International Shoe Factory in Cape Girardeau, and the Charles Sander Hardware Store and the Hosiery Mill, both in Jackson.  He then worked 32 years for MoDot, retiring January 1, 2005.  Thereafter, he was a part-time bus driver for Meadow Heights.

Loy was a longtime, faithful member of Sedgewickville United Methodist Church, serving on many committees through the years.  With a cheerful spirit, he enjoyed helping others and was always happy to arrive early or stay after church to help with anything.

His family affectionately remembers his devotion as their “full-time” father and grandpa.

Loving survivors include his wife of nearly 58 years, Alta “Pete” Shrum of Millersville; three sons, Loy E. “Beaver” (Leah) Shrum of Millersville, Kendall (Marsha) Shrum of Valles Mines, Missouri, and Keith (Allison) Shrum of Millersville; a brother, Robert “Bob” (the late Lois) Shrum of Perryville; 13 grandchildren: Andrew Shrum, Kendra (Corey) Trowbridge, Ashlynne (Justin) Miller, Kurtis (Ericka) Shrum, Brittany, Tyler, Alexis, Nathan, Alyssa, Brandon, Caleb, Mason, and McKenna Shrum; four great-grandchildren, Bryson and Carter Trowbridge, Taylor and Jodi Miller, and another great-grandchild expected very soon. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 9:30 a.m. to service time, Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Sedgewickville United Methodist Church.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at the church, with the Revs. Doug Booth, Anthony Stewart, and Jimmie Corbin officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, Missouri.
