Lucy T. (Bohnenkamp) Fowler

October 22, 1926 — November 25, 2020

Formerly of Pocahontas, Elvins, and Desloge, Missouri

Lucy T. Fowler, 94, formerly of Pocahontas, Elvins and Desloge, Missouri, passed away November 25, 2020, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, where she resided nearly 11 years.

The youngest of seven children, Lucy was born October 22, 1926, in Bourbon, Missouri, to Rev. Sam D. and Amy E. Sites Bohnenkamp.  As a “preacher’s kid”, Lucy moved often and attended several schools.  She was a 1945 graduate of Mountain View High School in Mountain View, Missouri.   As soon as she graduated, she started working at Wagner Electric in St. Louis.

After a happenstance meeting and a whirlwind engagement, she and Andrew Fowler were married June 8, 1946, in Desloge, Missouri.   Andrew later became a United Methodist Minister, pastoring multiple churches in Southeast Missouri, including Zion Methodist Church in Gordonville from 1967 to 1971.  Lucy and Andrew had been married 52 years when Andrew passed away December 21, 1998.

Lucy was a faithful member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson and the United Methodist Women’s Group.  She also volunteered at the Jackson Senior Center.

Her family affectionately remembers Lucy’s competitive spirit.  In earlier years, she enjoyed playing ping-pong, even against her sister, Clara, for the gold medal in the Perryville Senior Olympics.   She always enjoyed playing cards and board games and working puzzles.

Lucy’s family celebrated many special occasions at the Lutheran Home.  Near Lucy’s room, there is even a hallway lined with framed puzzles that Lucy and Rowland Julian put together.  The family is eternally grateful to the staff of the Lutheran Home for the tender, loving care they gave to Lucy.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Beverly (Mark) Kasten of Pochaontas and Brenda Hardin of Scopus; two granddaughters, Amy (Gibbie) Yates and children Blake, Hailey and Riley of Jackson, and Jennifer (Daniel) Hoskins and children Jack and Joey of St. Louis, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (the late Francis) Moranville of Farmington, Missouri; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons-in-law, Bill Straussner and Paul Hardin; six siblings, May (Harry) Summers, Rev. Mildred Sellers (Rev. Coy Statler and later Jeff Sellers), Earl (Viola) Bohnenkamp, Clara (Sam) Raines, Henry (Juanita) Bohnenkamp, and Marvin (Davalee) Bohnenkamp; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Andrew J. and Josie Hunt Fowler; sisters-in-law, Irene (Charlie) Leonard, Bertha (Jim) Drennen, Gertrude (Lou) Boyle and Florence (Bill) Laws; a 5-year-old brother-in-law Willard Jackson Fowler; and her special companion, Rowland Julian.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. to service time, Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral is at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating.

Graveside committal will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at St. Francois County Memorial Park Cemetery in Bonne Terre, Missouri.
