Marian Elaine Preusser, 94 of Shawneetown, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born January 5, 1931, in Frohna, Missouri, to Elmer M. and Flora M. Oswald Popp. She was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna, also the church of her marriage to Nelson Victor Preusser, on September 6, 1952. After marriage, she became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown, where she was active in the Ladies Aid and sang in the choir.
Marian worked alongside Nelson on the dairy farm. She gardened flowers and vegetables and canned her produce to enjoy at the weekly Sunday dinners she prepared for her family. She and Nelson had been married only 34 years when he passed away August 1, 1986. The family owned and operated the dairy farm until 1994. Marian then worked many years as the kitchen supervisor/cook at the Fruitland Sale Barn and was well known for her tasty pies and cheesecakes.
She is survived by four sons: Steve (Shirley) Preusser of Jackson; Mark (the late Mary) Preusser of Cape Girardeau; Jeff (Karen) Preusser of Jackson; and Dan (the late Diana) Preusser of Union, Missouri; 6 grandchildren: Mary (Kevin) Carvalho, Daniel Bono, Seth (Crystal) Preusser, Zachary (Cheyenne) Preusser, Kirby (Bailey) Preusser, and Pam Messerli; six great-grandchildren, Sydney (Stephen) Braun, Paige Messerli, Riley Preusser, Sadie Preusser, Tatum Preusser, and August Preusser; a great-great-grandson, Benny Braun; and two siblings, James Popp of Ingleside, Illinois, and Carolyn Popp of Chicago, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and four siblings, Clarence Popp, Bernice Loebs, Robert Popp, and Betty Popp.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 9:30 a.m. to service time, Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown, with the Rev. Virgil Kelm officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
