Mary Joeann (Biri) Johnston

Mary Joeann Johnston, age 99 of Jackson, passed away Saturday, May11, 2024 at the Monticello House in Jackson. She was born July 15, 1924 in Jackson, the daughter of Francis Monroe and Mary Louise Duvall Biri.

She married Leroy L. Johnston August 2, 1941. They were married almost sixty-nine years when he died March 9, 2010.

Joeann had worked for the Jackson Hosiery Mill, Ralph Edwards, Lee Rowan, but the one she looked most forward to doing was with Central Services at Southeast Hospital. She and Leroy traveled to many places for work and pleasure, having been to Montana, Oregon, Washington, however Branson was her favorite destination to visit.

Loving survivors include two sons, Steven (Diane) Johnston of Cape Girardeau and Philip (Paula) Johnston of Jackson; three grandchildren, Andrew, Dana, and Deanna; six great grandchildren, Annabelle, Beck, Tatum, Bailie, Breanna, and Makenzie Johnston; and “Zoey, Major, and Corky”.

Joeann was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; her eldest son, Terry Lee Johnston; seven siblings, Hazel Haaseth, Leon Biri, Helen Greene, Louise Sago, Dorothy Johnston, Francis Biri, Jr., and Paul Biri.

Visitation will be from 12 pm until service time on Friday, May 17, 2024 at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral Service will be at 1:30 pm at the funeral home with Larry Koehler presiding.

The committal service will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the Associates at Cape Girardeau Walmart #188 for all they did to help her and Leroy during their last years; and to the staff of the Monticello House and Crown Hospice  for the kind and compassionate care given to Joeann.
