Mary Ann Boren, 83 of Jackson, passed away at the Villas of Jackson on January 22, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born April 16, 1942, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to Gilbert and Bernice Steiner.
Mary Ann attended Pocahontas Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Jackson High School in 1960.
She married Allen Boren on November 23, 1963.
She worked various jobs including Brugger and McDowell Auto Dealership, the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, Capital and Union Planters Banks, and Associated Sheet Metal. In her younger years, she was very active as a 4H leader. After retirement she spent the majority of her time volunteering at Trinity Lutheran School and Southeast Hospice.
Mary Ann was a devoted Christian. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a 60+ year member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, MO where she served in many capacities including the alter guild. Even in her final days, she found great comfort and peace in her daily devotions and listening to St. Paul’s worship service on the radio.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Allen, sister, Barbara Mayfield, brothers-in-law, Eugene Leimbach, and James Hughes and sister-in-law Geraldine (Eugene) Leimbach.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lynn Boren of Jackson and Lori (Frank) Zieba also of Jackson, along with their children, Lt. Andrew (Kate) Zieba of San Diego, CA, and Zander (fiancée, Anna Schwartz) of Jackson. Mary Ann is also survived by her sisters, Betty (Jim) Scheper of Jackson, Nancy Hughes of Scottsdale, AZ, and brothers, Richard (Diane) Steiner of Tulsa, OK, Mark (Bertha) Steiner of Fairfax, VA and brother-in-law, Roy (Jane) Boren of Columbia, MO, as well as, several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the staff and residents of the Villas of Jackson for making their home her own and their loving care over the last three years; to the staff of Mercy Hospice for making her passing peaceful, to the wonderful group of caregivers who supported family and saw to her comfort in her final days and last but not least, Saundra Hickson, APRN, Mercy Palliative Care for her tireless devotion to Mary Ann’s care over the past 3 years.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm January 29, 2026 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 10 am until service time Friday, January 30, 2026 at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Rev. Joshua Schmidt will conduct the memorial service at 11 am Friday at the church.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Saxony Lutheran High School or St Paul School Angel Fund (Tuition Fund).
