Mary Scordato

Mary Scordato, 94, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born June 24, 1922, in Chicago, daughter of Peter and Julia Moretti. She married Charles Scordato June 5, 1943, in Chicago. They were married more than 59 years when he passed away Sept. 5, 2002. Mary and her husband lived most of their lives in Chicago. They moved to Jackson in 1999 and became members of the Christian Covenant Center in Fruitland. Mary was a great caregiver, wife, mother and family matriarch. She gave her love unconditionally. Loving survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Lorenz-Wells and husband, Kent Wells, of Jackson; a son, Charles J. "Chuck" Scordato Jr. and wife, Cheryl Scordato, of Woodstock, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Amy Lorenz-Moser and husband, Mike Moser; Adam Lorenz and wife, Alexa Hart-Lorenz; Mario (Stephanie) Scordato, Marisa (Jake) Burkhart, Malory (Craig) Degel, Dane (Sherry) Lorenz, Teresa (Todd) Burns and Drenna (Greg) Shive; 14 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Siena, Charles, Andrew, Rafaella, Mira, Iris, Brandon, Megan, Justin, Mindy, Sydney, Barrett and Aaron; a great-great-granddaughter, Beatrice, and a sister, Theresa Gruzalski of Chicago. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. The visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson and Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of service. The funeral service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Terry Culberson officiating. Entombment will be in the Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
