Mathew Todd Showmaker, age 51, of Sedgewickville, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.
Matt was born November 26, 1974, in Murphysboro, Illinois, the son of Edward J. and Norma Jean (Ellguth) Showmaker. On July 22, 2000, he married the love of his life, Tammie Lyn Thompson, and together they built a life rooted in family, hard work, and devotion to one another.
A 1993 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Cape Girardeau, Matt also attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. He spent many years working as a mechanic at Baker Implement and McCoy Construction and Forestry Equipment (formerly Erb Equipment), where he was known for his knowledge, skill, and work ethic. Matt had a true passion for fixing and working on equipment—there was very little he couldn’t figure out.
When he wasn’t working, Matt loved being outdoors. He enjoyed bow fishing, hunting, riding horses, and cooking for those he loved. More than anything, he treasured time spent with his family, especially his children and grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.
Matt is survived by his wife, Tammie Showmaker of Sedgewickville; his daughters, Brittany (Alex Foltz) Showmaker and Taylor Showmaker; his grandchildren, Payton Foltz and Beckett Fornkohl, with two more grandchildren eagerly anticipated; his father, Edward Showmaker of Charleston, Missouri; his siblings, Tim Showmaker of Sikeston, Missouri, Jeanna Muskopf of Mascoutah, Illinois, and Danny Showmaker of Ullin, Illinois; and his nieces and nephews, Theodore and Daisy Muskopf, and Amber and Jacob Showmaker.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Bobbi Gerecke of Jackson, and sister-in-law, Linda (Todd) Weber of Friedheim.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lixville Cemetery near Sedgewickville.
