Michael L. Schlimme, 68, of Cape Girardeau, MO passed away Sunday May 29, 2016 while returning home from a recent hospitalization in Virginia.
He was born July 6, 1947 in Cape Girardeau, MO the son of Lloyd and Freida Cobb Schlimme.
Mike was a graduate of Cape Central High School and Southeast Missouri State University. He served two years in the Army, and was an auxiliary member of the VFW.
Mike worked his entire career in the ocean shipping logistics industry.
He lived many years away from Cape Girardeau, but returned in 2011 to help care for his father.
Mike never met a stranger, and had a warm smile for all those he met. His attributes included his outgoing personality and his willingness to help others coupled with his funny sense of humor.
He was a devoted member of Zion United Methodist Church of Gordonville. Michael requested and received Communion during his recent hospital stay.
He is survived by three children, daughters Niki (Kirk) Palmer of Cambridge, IL and Amanda Gibson of Minneapolis, MN; and son Kurtis (Rhonda) Gibson of Quincy, IL; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and six nieces and nephews. He is also survived by brothers, Kenneth Schlimme and friend Betty Ludwig, of Cape Girardeau, MO, John (Connie) Schlimme of Raleigh, NC and sister Mary (Wes) Scaggs of Paducah, KY.
In addition, he was survived by his loving and caring companion Edie Lowes of Cape Girardeau, MO.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and one brother Roger.
Visitation will be from 3-7 pm Friday June 3, 2016 at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, MO. Funeral service will begin at 7 pm, with the Rev. Joel Kidwell officiating. Cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Zion United Methodist Church of Gordonville.
