Michael Anthony Welker

Michael Anthony Welker, age 73 of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021 at home. He was born July 7, 1947 in Cape Girardeau, the son of Luther John and Audrey Thelma Rhodes Welker. He was married to Carole A. Bess who preceded him in death July 29, 1998. Michael attended Cape Central High School. He had a passion for cooking so he followed that desire by going to culinary school. He also enjoyed horticulture. Michael had previously worked at Florsheim Shoe Company, Lemmons Restaurant in St. Louis and had been chef at Cape Girardeau Country Club. Loving survivors include three children, Tamara Baker, Chris (Celine Finney) Welker of Austin, Texas, and Michael Welker of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren, Hadley and Braeden Bowen, Jacob Welker, Anais King, Makayla and Jordan Welker; three great grandchildren, Zane, Raelynn, and Ryelle Bowen and anticipating the birth of a new great grandchild; and a sister, Bonnie Hahs of Cape Girardeau. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Whittley Dabbs, and two brothers, Marvin and Bobby Welker, a sister, Patsy Higgins, and a special niece Teri Poole. Visitation will be Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 10 -11 am at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Funeral will be Thursday at 11 am at the funeral home.
