Milton James, 89, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Heartland Care and Rehab in Cape Girardeau.

He was born August 25, 1928, in Jackson, to Henry Milton and Iva Mae Fischer James.  He and Arlene Petzoldt were married February 5, 1961, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

Milton was a 1945 graduate of Jackson High School.  He served honorably in the Missouri National Guard.

He worked at the former Hosiery Mill in Jackson and as a line operator at Procter and Gamble, retiring April 3, 1991.

Milton was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed small engine repair; building and flying model air planes; fishing; and yardwork.  He was an avid reader and is remembered for keeping the “Book Rack” busy.

Loving survivors include his wife of 57 years, Arlene James of Jackson; three children, Paul (Natalie) James of Mead, Colorado, Karen James and Nathan James, both of Cape Girardeau; a grandson, Wyatt (Nicole) Prentice of North Carolina; a great-grandson, Emmett Prentice of North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Pauline James of Paducah, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leroy and Joseph James; and four sisters, Mabel Huffstedler, Frances Taplin, Clara Mae Oster, and Lyla Bangert.

Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. to service time, Thursday, May 31, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

The funeral is at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the church, with the Rev. Eric Longman officiating.

Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Francis Hospice, St. Paul Lutheran Radio Broadcast, or Saxony Lutheran High School.
